The Reality

Gender-Based Violence in South Africa

South Africa still has the highest number of cases of violence against women and children in the world. On average, there is a new case every six hours. Violence against women and children is not part of African culture but the result of poverty, abuse of alcohol and drugs, and lack of public services.

1:4 men have committed sexual crimes
67% of men consumed alcohol before abuse
Only 2% of cases lead to charges

Voices of Courage

Survivor Stories

Real journeys of healing and transformation

"Siliziwe gave me a second chance. After escaping years of abuse, I found safety, counselling, and learned beadwork — now I support my children selling crafts. I am independent and free."

- Anonymous survivor, Witsand

"My children and I arrived with nothing but fear. The shelter gave us warmth, meals, and legal help to get a protection order. Today we live in peace."

- Mother of two, Atlantis

"The skills training changed my life. I now grow vegetables, sell them, and I am financially empowered. I even mentor new survivors."

- Graduate of Siliziwe
